Bulletin Report

After consulting with experts at Southwest Hazard Control and Sun City Analytical, Las Cruces Public Schools has decided to relocate students who attend Columbia Elementary School to address issues with mold and air quality, according to a press release from the district.
On Thursday, students who attend Columbia Elementary were relocated to Vista Middle School, 4465 Elks Drive, after lunch for the remainder the day. Normal bus routes will operate for students who ride the bus. Parents who pick up their children or need access to them during the school day will need to pick them up at Vista Middle School. All after-school activities for Thursday have been moved to Vista.
Beginning on Friday, Sept. 7, all Columbia students will be transported to Centennial High School, where they will continue to receive instruction until the issue has been addressed. All classrooms, staff, bus routes and after-school activities will be moved to Centennial High School until the issue has been resolved.
Every effort will be made to contain all of the Columbia students in a single building, apart from high school students. All classrooms, staff, bus routes and after-school activities will be moved to Centennial High School until the issue has been resolved.
A shuttle bus will be provided for Columbia students who walk to school. The shuttle bus will leave from VISTA MIDDLE SCHOOL. The Columbia campus has been ordered to remain closed by the Superintendent.
Parents who wish to drop off or pick up their students at Centennial High School may do so at normal times, utilizing the front (south) lanes.

Students who attend Head Start or the DD-Pre program at Columbia will continue classes at Doña Ana Elementary School until the issue has been resolved.
Abatement has already begun at Columbia, but at this time, it is not known how long it will take to complete the process. The district will continue to keep parents and the community informed as the process continues.
