Man suspected of felony shoplifting from Sears

Dwayne Grandison Arrest mugPolice arrested a Las Cruces man suspected of shoplifting more than $900 worth of merchandise from the Sears department store on Monday.

Dwayne Grandison, 35, of the 1000 block of Hatfield Road, is charged with a fourth-degree felony count of shoplifting. It was also discovered  he had nine Municipal Court warrants for failing to pay fines.

On the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 27, Las Cruces police were dispatched to the report of a shoplifting at Sears, 700 S. Telshor Blvd. The officer learned that a man was captured on store surveillance cameras selecting several items of clothing and leaving the store without paying. Video also shows that two women appeared to aid the man by placing merchandise near an exit. The man can be seen picking up those items on his way out of the store.

A Sears employee obtained the license plate number of the vehicle the suspects left in. The officer located the vehicle on Hatfield Road and observed a large amount of the stolen merchandise in the backseat of the car.

Grandison was also located at the home.

Investigators obtained consent to search the vehicle and Grandison’s home where additional stolen merchandise was located. An employee of Sears indicated the stolen merchandise totaled $911.78 and consisted of Dallas Cowboys jerseys, Levi’s jeans and other assorted clothing.

Grandison was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond. The investigation is ongoing and charges against the two accomplices are possible.
