The City of Las Cruces and Las Cruces Downtown Partnership invite the community to celebrate Halloween early at Spooky Downtown, a whole day of Halloween fun for ghouls of all ages.
The event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Downtown Las Cruces, and features vendors, food trucks, dance performances, live music and a laser show. RoadRUNNER Transit and Dial-a-Ride paratransit service will offer free rides all day.
Here’s the lineup of events:
Haunted Museum
From 10 a.m.-noon enjoy a Haunted Museum adventure at the Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St. Make glow in the dark slime and assemble a skeleton; design a jack-o'-lantern out of clay; decorate gourds to ward off evil spirits with the Branigan Cultural Center; and learn about nocturnal animals in the Nature Center. The event is free and open to all. Costumes welcome.
Family-Friendly Halloween Flick
From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. settle in at the Branigan Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave., for a Family-Friendly Halloween Flick. The event is free and open to all. For more information on this children's holiday-themed movie, contact the Media Desk at 575-528-4014 or email library.media@las-cruces.org.
Zombie Walk
Las Cruces Zombie Walk 2019, brought to you by the Downtown Las Cruces Partnership, takes place from 5-9 p.m. on the Plaza de Las Cruces and along N. Main Street.
Last year's Zombie Walk attracted more than 3,000 people and this year promises to be “even bigger and better,” with live music by The Beaux Peep Show, Emcees provided by Bravo Mic DJ's, dance entertainment by local high schools/dance troupes (Las Cruces High School Performing Dance, Mayfield Diversity Dance, HD2 Hip Hop, Daring Diamond), food trucks, merchandise vendors and a laser light show at 8:45 p.m. to close out the event.
The zombie parade begins at 7 p.m. down Main Street, and trophies for the best costumes in the areas of Best Adult, Best Youth and Best Group will be given out. Registration for the Walk will begin at 5 p.m., next to the stage on the plaza. This event is free to the public and anyone in a zombie costume is welcome to walk in the parade. However, to be eligible to compete in the costume contests on the stage, participants must register and pay $5 per person or $20 for a group of four or more.
