County welcomes new fire station in Anthony

Doña Ana County welcomed the opening of a new fire station in Anthony, N.M. this week, saying it will serve as a training hub while providing service to the southern part of the county.

Fire Station 2, located at 3230 Anthony Drive, offers 24-hour accommodations for firefighters and will be fully operational by May 1, county fire chief Shannon Cherry stated in a news release.

The station’s opening was marked by a ribbon cutting and a “wet down” ceremony in which the station was doused with water. There were also public tours and an opportunity for children to explore the fire trucks, the county said.

Three members of the county board of commissioners were present for the ceremony, including Commissioner Diana Murillo, who also serves as Anthony’s mayor. She noted the growing population in southern Doña Ana County and said the project illustrated the county’s commitment to provide “top-notch emergency services to all our residents.”

The station is reportedly equipped with state-of-the-art technology for supporting firefighters and other emergency services, which, along with the location, would facilitate faster response times.
