Hooten signs more Aggie players

Posted

With its recent signings, the NM State men’s basketball team now has enough players for a five-on-five scrimmage.

The addition of Christian Cook, Jordan Rawls and Femi Adukale gives Aggie head coach Jason Hooten  10 players on the roster.

Cook, a 6-2 junior guard, is a transfer from Division II Northeastern (Oklahoma) State University. Rawls, a 6-2 senior guard, comes from Western Kentucky. Odukale, a 6-6 senior guard, transferred from Seton Hall.

In addition, Head Coach Jason Hooten signed as an assistant coach, Robert Guster, who spent the past seven years as an assistant at Texas State.

With these additions, the player roster looks like this:

  • Christian Cook, 6-2 junior guard
  • Keylon Dorsey, 6-5 freshman guard
  • Kaosi Ezeagu, 6-10 grad. student forward
  • Denijay Harris, 6-7 senior forward
  • Jaden Harris, 6-4 junior guard
  • Clarence “Monzy” Jackson, 6-7 senior forward
  • Jaylin Jackson-Posey, 6-2 junior guard
  • Femi Odukale, 6-6 senior guard
  • Jordan Rawls, 6-2 senior guard
  • Brandon Suggs, 6-6 senior guard

The coaching staff now looks like this: head coach Hooten, associate head coach Kenneth Mangrum, assistant coach Robert Guster, assistant coach Zach Settembre, assistant coach Payne Andrus, and graduate assistants Terryonte Thomas and Noah Breitenstein.

A few of the new Aggie faces previously worked with Hooten while he was coaching at Sam Houston State University.

Andrus worked with Hooten for three years, most recently as director of operations for men’s basketball at Sam Houston.

Mangrum was an assistant for Hooten 10 years ago at Sam Houston, and most recently was at Troy University for three seasons as an assistant and two more as associate head coach.

Ezeagu played for Hooten at Sam Houston last season, starting 33 games and leading the team in blocked shots.

That follows the May 9 signing of 6-10 senior Kaosi Ezeagu, who played at Sam Houston, Kansas State and nearby UTEP. Ezeagu is originally from the Bahamas, but played prep ball at Chattanooga, Tenn., and Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

The signees of new Aggie coach Jason Hooten now include Harris, Ezeagu, 6-6 senior guard Brandon Suggs, 6-2 junior guard Jaylin Jackson-Posey, 6-7 senior forward Clarence “Monzy” Jackson, 6-5 freshman guard Keylon Dorsey, and 6-4 junior guard Jaden Harris.

Hooten brought Kenneth Mangrum to NMSU as associate head coach, as well as two assistant coaches: Payne Andrus and Zach Settembre.
