Las Cruces police 'always aware of potential (terrorism) threats'

Las Cruces Bulletin

As national media continue to report possible terrorist threats in the United States, Las Cruces Police Chief Jaime Montoya said his department is “always aware of these potential threats.

“We remind our officers continuously about these dangers and areas to patrol. Many times the district officers have these areas covered already during their proactive activities,” he said.

Montoya said his department does not receive any federal funding for dealing with potential terrorist attacks, but LCPD does receive federal Stone Garden funds for interdiction of drug cartels, and there may be activities crossing between the two,” he said.

“The LCPD will do everything in our power to keep our community safe and hope that it (terrorism) never comes here,” Montoya said. “We are prepared to act and respond to any threat to our citizens.”
