BULLETIN REPORT

The New Mexico State University Dance Program presents the ninth season of Look Who’s Dancing! (LWD), at 3 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Pan American Center, 1810 E. University Ave. on the NMSU campus.

The purpose of the event is to promote social dancing in the community as a healthful and enjoyable activity for all ages and all skill levels, and to benefit the NMSU Dance Program.

The NMSU DanceSport Company members have been partnered with local community celebrities and began practicing for this event in August. At the event on Oct. 23, the “celebrities” will compete toe-to-toe in a spirited dance contest.

The DanceSport Company students are responsible for creating the dance choreographies, instructing their community “celebrity” partners on how to execute the steps, and performing with them in the LWD event.

Competitors will vie for first, second and third place Mirror Ball trophies, the Entertainment Award, and the People’s Choice award.

The judges’ scores are based on the technical and artistic skill of the dancers. Past LWD winners judge each couple on who has the most entertaining performance and pick one couple to receive the Entertainment award. Audience members get to cast their vote for the People’s Choice award.

Money raised from LWD helps NMSU Dance students represent NMSU at national competitions and conferences, produce shows regionally and share dance locally.

In addition to the technical judging, competitors are competing for the people’s choice award.

To choose the couple who will win the People’s Choice award, community members get to buy votes; you can drop money, at $1 increments, into the bins for the competitor you would like to vote for at the event. If you would like to “vote” ahead of time you can send checks or money orders to the below address. The NMSU DanceSport Company is a member of the NMSU Foundation, which holds 501(c)3 status. The competitor receiving the most money/ votes wins.
