Luxe Homes a marriage of quality and creativity

The Las Cruces Bulletin For most couples, “building a home together” is an abstract idea representing a meshing of individual lives into a cohesive unit. However, for Jeramey and Dominique Pummill of Luxe Homes and Interiors, the phrase also takes a more concrete meaning. Luxe Homes started in 2014, and it has been a professional and creative outlet for the husband-and-wife team. Their first home was featured in last year’s Las Cruces Home Builders Association Spring Showcase of Homes, and another of their homes was included in the fall Living in Las Cruces Home Tour. The home included in that tour, an ultramodern build with black cement floors and floating cabinets, has also been featured in a lighting design magazine. Jeramey Pummill is a fourth-generation electrician. He started his own electrical contracting company, JP Electric, seven years ago, and it has grown into a lively business with eight employees. His exposure to the home building process helped spark his interest in the new venture. “I’ve been around (building) all my life, so finally, my wife convinced me I should just do the whole thing instead of just the electrical,” Jeramey Pummill said. “And we also just like to build our own houses and put our own design into the work, and so then I decided to start my own company building houses, as well.” For Dominique Pummill, who is currently completing her master’s degree to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner, designing has always been a creative outlet. “I’ve always liked designing homes,” Dominique Pummill said. “Always loved it. And I would just draw in my spare time at work or just after hours. You always start with a floorplan that you kind of like, and then you start tweaking it and finding ideas, ways to make it better.” The Pummills have traveled extensively, and their world exploration has informed their work. Their home, which was part of this year’s Spring Showcase of Homes, has a Tuscan-style rock exterior opening up into an enclosed central courtyard anchored by a fireplace and trimmed by burbling fountains. The design seamlessly blends Old World elegance with modern touches that make the home feel fresh yet comfortable in the desert landscape. “We love Italy when we go,” Dominique Pummill said. The Tuscan-inspired personal home built by the husband-and-wife team, Jeramey and Dominique Pummill, of Luxe Homes and Interiors was featured as part of the 2015 Spring Showcase of Homes and includes three bedrooms, threeand- a-half bathrooms, interior courtyard, waterfall shower and casita. “What could be better than to bring it home and put that Tuscan, rustic look on the front of the home?” The Pummill’s home includes the sort of unique, thoughtful features that make Luxe Home design stand out. A built-in dog crate in the laundry room has its own doggy-door out into an enclosed dog run. The bathrooms include pull-out step-stool drawers for young children. In the kitchen, a pull-out cabinet drawer is uniquely designed to hold cooking utensils. All of the cabinets are custom, hand-built through Pummill’s preferred cabinetmaker. “In our last home, we had a drawer just full of utensils – I mean, you couldn’t find anything in that drawer,” Dominique Pummill said. “So you start to think, what can I do to make this better? “And then the last house, we hadn’t had our daughter yet, but you start thinking about stubbing your toes on all of these stools you have around your house for her to reach everything. If you can tuck it away and not have to have so much clutter, just makes life easier.” Their home also includes features that any homeowner would love, including an enclosed outdoor shower with a rock wall and waterfall spout, an upstairs bar and entertainment area in the courtyard and a plushly-carpeted, enormous walk-in master closet. The addition of eight-foot doorways makes everything feel, well, luxe. Luxe Homes works not only with an eye toward custom features but energy efficiency. Pummill said he likes to work with spray foam installation, use LED lights and install solar panels – a technology he is familiar with, installing them regularly through his company’s electrical contracting work. While Luxe Homes has been represented in every showcase since their inception, Luxe Homes does not limit itself only to the largest builds that Las Cruces can afford. Luxe Homes have also done some smaller builds in the Metro Verde area, maintaining completely custom- drawn plans for each client. “Even in the smaller homes, I still try to get the price where I need it to be to get the quality, and take the time to actually build the house,” Jeramey Pummill said. “We try to take our time and do things right. … We still give them all the quality that we would do in this house, just maybe not some of the tricks, you know.” “You’re trying to find what fits you,” Dominique Pummill said. “Everybody should be able to have a quality home. If they want a little bit bigger pantry than what somebody else is offering in an already-done floorplan, you should be able to do that. If you want to move a wall, just to have a place for a wall. I think everybody should be able to make changes in their floorplan to make it right for them.” “Quality” and “custom” are the words Jeramey Pummill revisits as the goal of his new venture. “I’m looking forward to trying to build a very quality, custom home for people,” he said. Dominique Pummill said she looks forward to opportunities to try new styles and expand their repertoire of homes. “My goal is just to expand, to see where I can go with interior design,” she said. “All the different styles … just see how far we can go with it. How creative we can get. It really is our creative outlet.” With the team combination of quality and creativity, Luxe Homes and Interiors adds their unique style to the community of Las Cruces builders and buyers. “The best thing about it, you get to do what you love,” Dominique Pummill said. “I love this. That’s what makes it all worth it. To see it come to life from a piece of paper, to know that anything is possible.” For more information, visit www.buildluxe.com.
