Getting ready for the Memorial Day Service at Good Samaritan – Las Cruces Village reiterated the importance of traditions and reflection in all of us. Our turn out for the tribute to honor our fallen men and women and thank those still with us who have served was tremendous. While the stories shared from the veterans who had served was heart wrenching and emotional, it also was a time of reflection and another step in the process of healing.

A reception followed the Memorial Day Service which brought with it recanted memories of friends and family members lost as well as hugs, tears and a closeness of camaraderie from those who had lived through tumultuous times in our world.

The close of this gathering brought home the importance of being able to share experiences with others who had similar stories to share and could empathize with what each individual had been through. Through this time of sharing the process of healing continues. The handshakes, heartfelt “thank yous,” and comforting hugs were evidence that remembering and honoring these men and women in this manner continues to be an important tradition in our country.
