Two locals are teaming up with doctors from Albuquerque to raise awareness at a medicinal cannabis expo from noon to 9 p.m., Friday, June 24, and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, June 25, at Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces, 705 S. Telshor Blvd. Admission is $20..
Zeke Rodriguez, founder, and Fernando Guillen, manager of Kaizen Medicinal Cannabis Consultants will provide free consultations alongside doctors to help host the event.

The consultants are working with Christian Maes and John Delgado to bring the 2016 Southern New Mexico Medical Cannabis Expo to Las Cruces.
“Zeke and Fernando represent the main consulting part,” said Maes. “They’re actually going to be receiving the patients that come in to obtain a medical card and they’ll be doing the whole process from start to finish, the paperwork, sitting down with doctors and getting them processed to hopefully be approved for their medical cannabis card.”

Maes and Delgado have previously hosted medical expos in Albuquerque to inform, educate and raise awareness to the public.
“One of the main things we want to do is educate the people in the Southwest because the program is behind down here,” said Guillen. “We want to educate all the people who want to get off medication, all the people who are bilingual and don’t know what they can access as their legal right.”
The event will include a cannabidiol (CBD) bar, an industry specialist to discuss products and other educational seminars, munchie competitions, live music, art and vendors.
CBD is the active healing compound in cannabis that differs from other THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) strains that is non-psychoactive to help treat conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, glaucoma, chronic pain, arthritis and other ailments. The State of New Mexico offers medical marijuana cards to also help with anorexia, epilepsy, various types of cancer, HIV, peripheral neuropath and other diseases.
