Bulletin report

The 38th New Mexico Senior Olympics Annual Summer Games (NMSOASG) is a qualifying year for the National Senior Games in Birmingham, Alabama. The New Mexico games will take place Wednesday, July 13 through Saturday, July 16in Roswell with an anticipated 1100 senior athletes 50 years and older competing in 27 individual sporting events.

“NMSO is in need of 400 volunteers to support the different sporting events over the four days” Cecilia Acosta, executive director said. “Community based volunteers are the key to an event of this caliber and we so need everyone’s help to recruit volunteers.”

Volunteers are needed in several different areas: sport coordinators, registrar’s assistant, check-in, scorekeepers, judges, time keepers and award presenters. Volunteers must be 16 years or older.

Volunteers who work a four-hour shift minimum will receive a free t-shirt, certificate, an invitation to attend a volunteer kick-off event and enter into a drawing for a gift card. Sport coordinators will confirm all volunteers’ specific assignments and provide training in advance.

Individuals and groups who are interested in volunteering can download forms at the NMSO website or call 1-888-623-6676 for more information. Deadline to sign up is June 10.
