Two explosions shut down two different churches in Las Cruces Sunday morning, Aug. 2.

An explosion took place at Calvary Baptist Church at 1800 S Locust St., about 8 a.m. and nearly a half an hour later an explosion took place across town at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 1327 N Miranda St.

Both churches were evacuated and police report there were no injuries.

Both Locust and Miranda Streets were close.

Resident Trudy Preece lives on Baldwin Drive, about 50 yards from Calvary Baptist. She said she heard the explosion and it was "really loud."

"People were coming down the street with their Bibles," she said of evacuated church members."And people were being turned away."
