Tickets on sale for Dress the Child dinner

Posted

LAS CRUCES - Tickets are on sale for the 31st annual Dress the Child event, 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University Ave.

Tickets are $65 each or $650 for a table of 10.

To purchase, contact Doug Boberg at 575-644-9469 or dougboberg@comcast.net; or Julie Koenig at First New Mexico Bank, 575-556-3003. The event always sells out in advance.

All proceeds benefit the local Dress the Child Program sponsored by the Las Cruces Rio Grande Rotary Foundation. This year’s goal is to buy new clothes and shoes for a record-700 needy children in Doña Ana County. Children’s names are supplied by Las Cruces Public Schools and Gadsden Independent School District.

The children and a parent or guardian will be taken on a shopping trip to Old Navy or Kohl’s in November or December, with the Dress the Child program spending $100 on each child and participating merchants adding even more.

The Dress the Child program began in 1984 and provided clothing to 15 needy children that first year. It provided clothes for 627 children in 2018.

The dinner includes meals prepared by outstanding local chefs. This year’s theme is Latin/South American.

Donations of any amount can be sent by check to LCRGRF Dress the Child, P.O. Box 550, Las Cruces, NM 88004; or given to Julie Koenig at First New Mexico Bank at the corner of Lohman Avenue and Nacho Drive.

The program needs volunteer shoppers to assist children and parents with clothing purchases.
