Train blocks railroad crossings after collision in Las Cruces

Posted

Several railroad crossings in Las Cruces are closed temporarily following a collision between a train and a car Wednesday, the city reported.

The collision took place at about 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of S. Main Street and W. Union Avenue, according to police. A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train struck the vehicle at the Union Avenue crossing, but no injuries were reported.

The crash caused a “mechanical issue” requiring repairs on scene, with BNSF personnel stating the train will remain stationary until at least 8:30 p.m. or later in the evening.
