ACTion Programs for Animals offers free adoptions in July

Posted

ACTion Programs for Animals (APA) of Las Cruces is offering free adoptions during the month of July, excluding small-breed dogs.

Located at 537 N. Solano Drive, APA adoption center hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, or by appointment.

“Since May 2012, APA has rescued over 5,000, but we are not stopping there,” said APA Executive Director Michel Meunier. “We will continue working diligently to reach our goal of being a no-kill community. When loving families adopt from APA, it allows us to free up space and pull even more animals from the municipal shelter.”

APA is a progressive animal welfare organization seeking to improve the quality of life for companion animals in Doña Ana County. APA was voted Best Local Cause in Las Cruces in the 2021 Las Cruces Bulletin’s Best of the Mesilla Valley.

New Animal Services Center, dog parks coming in 2022

Construction of the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley’s (ASCMV) new adoption center and the Rinconada Dog Park is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022, the City of Las Cruces said in a news release.

Both will be located at 3551 Bataan Memorial West. The Burn Lake Dog Park is located within the Burn Lake Park at 855 Amador Ave. The new adoption center will be located next to the existing ASCMV Animal Service Center and will include the main adoption center and four dog pods to enhance the operational needs of the ASCMV.

The Burn Lake Dog Park will be located within the existing Burn Lake Park southeast of the existing soccer fields, which are located at 855 W. Amador Ave. It’s at a different location, but the Burn Lake Dog Park is part of the same project as the new adoption center and Rinconada Dog Park. The project, funded by general obligation bonds, was approved by Las Cruces voters in July and August 2018.
