LAS CRUCES, N.M. – College baseball is all about peaking at the right time and the NM State baseball team is doing just that. With a 13-9 come-from-behind win over Dixie State on Sunday, the Aggies clinched their second straight series win in WAC play.
Frank Dickson IV shined in relief, picking up his first win of the season. Closing the game with 2.0 scoreless innings, Dickson struck out three and allowed just one hit.
NM State trailed 6-1 after the first two innings and had a hole to dig themselves out of early. In the bottom of the first inning, Logan Gallina homered to center field – His conference-best 16th long ball of the season.
Cal Kilgore scored in the third inning after Kevin Jimenez bounced into a fielder's choice to begin chipping away at the deficit. Kilgore, a freshman from Kansas, finished the ballgame with three hits.
Dixie State added two more runs to their total with back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning. With a quick response, Kilgore doubled to right-center, driving in Nolan Funke.
Trailing by five heading to the bottom of the sixth inning, the Aggies decided to flip the script on Sunday's contest. After Tommy Tabak led off the inning with a triple inside the right field line, Edwin Martinez-Pagani lifted a pinch-hit home run to left-center. After Cal Villareal singled, AJ Garcia homered for the second Aggie long ball of the inning. Trailing by just a run, Jimenez ripped a ground-rule double off of the scoreboard, scoring Kilgore and bringing the game to an eight all tie.
A solo home run from Dixie State in the seventh inning broke the tie but the Aggies weren't giving up easily. Logan Gallina brought the game back to a 9-9 tie with a sacrifice fly before Martinez-Pagani once again broke it with a run-scoring groundout. Nolan Funke capped off the inning with a two-run infield single, highlighted by Garcia's hustle to score from second.
Dickson worked around a one-out single and held Dixie State scoreless in the ninth inning. Striking out the final hitter, Dickson and Aggies claimed their second straight series win in conference play.

The Aggies will not have a mid-week game this week and will head to Riverside, California next weekend to on California Baptist. Cal Baptist sits at 12-9 in WAC play, trailing Grand Canyon by five games.
