New Mexico State Sen. Jeff Steinborn, D-Doña Ana, is inviting Las Cruces and Doña Ana County residents to attend the fourth annual New Mexico Outdoor Economics Conference, which will be held Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the Farmington Civic Center, 200 W. Arrington St., in Farmington.

Speakers are expected to include: Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham; New Mexico Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard; state Tourism Department Secretary Jen Schroer; state Economic Development Department (EDD) Secretary Alicia Keyes; state Sen. and Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Carrie Hamblen; Keep America Beautiful Senior Director Randy Hartmann; New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division (ORD) Director Axie Navas; and others from the outdoor recreation industry and advocacy organizations.

“This year’s conference will be the best yet,” said Steinborn, who is president of Outdoor New Mexico, which is co-organizing the conference along with ORD, which is a division of EDD. “The conference will offer discussion topics, a new outdoor expo of New Mexico-based outdoor companies and opportunities for all New Mexicans to participate, have fun and learn.”

Conference topics will include outdoor marketing, business development and outdoor infrastructure funding opportunities, increasing outdoor access, agritourism and conservation needs.

The conference provides an opportunity to learn about and discuss the state’s $2.2 billion outdoor recreation industry, Steinborn said. It will include panel discussions, trips to regional outdoor hot spots, evening networking receptions, a pitch fest for start-up outdoor companies to pitch their ideas to angel investors, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival and an outdoor products expo.

Outdoor recreation opportunities during the conference will include Alien Run mountain-bike trails, Animas River Trail Walk, Aztec Ruins National Monument tour, Becalm on the Bisti Destination Meditation Hike, Chokecherry Canyon Scenic 4x4 Drive Tour, Crow Canyon Rock Art Tour, Majestic Enchantment on the San Juan River, Paddle to Pedal: A River and Bike Adventure, Piñon Hills Golf and the San Juan River Raft Float.

Registration is $95. Register at www.outdooreconomics.com.
