Apprentice electricians compete in 'wire-off' in Las Cruces

Competitors come from all over the Borderland region

More than 130 apprentrice electricians competed in Las Cruces April 23 in a regional “wire-off” between the Southern New Mexico Independent Electrical Contractors and the El Paso Independent Electrical Contractors associations. Competitors came from Las Cruces, Alamogordo, Roswell, Carlsbad, Ruidoso, El Paso and other locations. The event also featured an appearance by U.S. Rep. Yvette Herrell, R-N.M. The IEC organizations provide a four-year apprenticeship program in which aspiring electricians get thorough classroom training while simultaneously earning money during on-the-job training with local electrical contractors.
