Area track teams kick off season

Organ Mountain High wins boys, girls team competitions at Santa Teresa

It’s a sign that spring is officially here – track and field season has kicked off.

Area high-school teams took part in the Santa Teresa Invitational Feb. 26.

Organ Mountain High took first in the team competition in both the boys and girls.

First-place boys for the Knights were: James Limon in the 200 meters (22.63); Jeron Wisner in the 800 meters (2:08.13); Brett Bybee in the 1,600 (4:51.23) and 3,200 (10:29.33); and Jonathan Torres in the pole vault (12-6). The Organ Mountain boys also won the 400, 800 and medley relay.

In the girls, Organ Mountain had first-place showings from Marisa Harrington in the 100 meters (12.64); Marianna Islava, 800 meters (2:54.13) and Gia Fernandez, triple jump (29-3). The Organ Mountain girls also won the 400, 800, medley and 4 x 800 relays.

Other first-place boys included: Alexander Pineda, Centennial, in the high jump (5-8); Charles Foster, Las Cruces High, in the long jump (19-2); Gage Duran, Mayfield, in 110 hurdles (17.72); and Andrew Bleimeyer, Mayfield, in discus (122-3).

Other first-place girls included: Devyn Gunn, Centennial, in 200 meters (27.03); Agalelei Pili, Centennial, in shot put (36-1) and discus (123-6); Lauren Ocampo, Centennial, in javelin (108-8); Deianira Hoyle, Centennial, 1,600 (6:19.13); Isabella Barrera, Las Cruces High, in long jump (15-4 ½); and Jayln McDonald, Mayfield, in 100 hurdles (17.5) and pole vault (8-0).
