ARTIST BOB DIVEN

Artist offers rhyming clues to hidden downtown mural

Posted

Here are clues to finding Las Cruces artist Bob Diven’s "hidden mural" that he installed downtown in November. These clues were shared on both Diven’s Facebook page and the Murals of Las Cruces page.

ONE

I’ve put up a mural,
it’s small, all in all,
you might walk right past it
and not see it at all.

It’s meant to trick you,
or at least fool your eye,
so don’t look too low,
or look up too high.

Downtown is the spot,
but not quite on Main,
You might look right at it,
but look, look again.

And when you do find it,
tell me when but not where,
let others keep looking,
and discover it there!

TWO

Bigger than a pillow,
smaller than a sheet,
you can see if from the sidewalk,
see it from the street.

It looks like it was put there
a long, long time ago,
and if you didn’t have these clues,
you might not ever know…

That this simple artist
was having a lark,
and making the practical
thing into “art.”

And if you find it,
while you’re out and about,
I made sure to sign it
so there’d be no doubt!

THREE

So how do you spot
what’s meant to blend in,
with all that surrounds it?
Where to begin?

It’s not in an alley,
or hidden away,
(it wouldn’t be fair
to hide it that way).

There’s a pattern, a plan
to what I have painted,
as if time and weather,
its rough face have tainted.

I’m no Mason,
but this secret I’ll keep,
the joy’s in discovering
this imaginative leap.
