Bob Ogas all-star baseball series returns to Las Cruces this weekend

Posted

After a two-year hiatus because of the Covid pandemic, the Bob Ogas All-Star Baseball Classic returns to Las Cruces for its 45th year of action.

All-star games pitting 5A and 4A standouts from around the state will be held at the Field of Dreams at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 9-10 and at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 11.

Organizers say it is a chance for players to showcase their skills, play some more baseball and maybe catch the eye of a pro baseball scout or college coach.

Las Cruces is represented by Dominick Moreno and Ivan Cogles, both of Organ Mountain, and Cameren Valenzuela of Las Cruces High.

All-stars are divided into teams called red and green in a nod to the state’s chile industry and are not based on geography this year.

The event is sponsored by the Optimist Club of Las Cruces, the New Mexico High School Coaches Association and the New Mexico Activities Association.

Tickets are available at the gate and cost $5 for adults, $3 for students and free for children under 7.
