The Border Industrial Association (BIA) has appointed Eric Montgomery, El Paso Electric’s regional director for governmental affairs, to its board of directors, BIA President Jerry Pacheco of Santa Teresa said in an email.

Montgomery has extensive experience in economic development and community affairs. He was previously the vice president for Business Development at the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA) and economic development program coordinator for the City of Las Cruces. Montgomery also served as southwest regional director for LaserShield Systems.

Montgomery holds a master of public administration and bachelor of arts in psychology from New Mexico State University. He also is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute of the University of Oklahoma.

Montgomery serves as a board member and as legislative affairs chair of the New Mexico Industrial Development Executives Association, New Mexico’s statewide economic development professionals association, and he is a board member for the Bridge of Southern New Mexico.

Formed in 2009, BIA is a nonprofit industrial advocacy group comprised of 125 industrial members that account for 6,000 employees and billions of dollars in value-added production in the Santa Teresa region. It is the largest industrial association in New Mexico and represents the state’s largest export base to the world.
