THOMAS BRANIGAN MEMORIAL LIBRARY

Branigan Library launches spring seed collection

Posted

The Tierra Sagrada pop-up seed library is returning to Thomas Branigan Memorial Library.

The Tierra Sagrada Seed Library (named after the mural in the Library’s amphitheater) is created to encourage Las Crucens to learn more about local food systems and regionally adapted community seed saving projects, the City of Las Cruces said in a news release.

The seed library is now available during select grab-and-go hours, 10 a.m.-noon, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Seeds will be available until May or while supplies last. Each library patron may check out seven packets of seeds per season on library cards. There is no return date, but patrons are encouraged to learn how to save seeds and eventually make a seed donation back to the library.

Spring seed offerings are largely regional and growing-season appropriate.

Community members interested in donating seed are asked to fill out a donation form to provide information on seed provenance and cultural history to help build a regionally adapted community seed-saving project.

For more information or to place an order for seeds, contact the library’s reference department at 575- 528-4005 and library.reference@las-cruces.org. Visit http://library.las-cruces.org and click on “Seed Library” for more information and a listing of available spring seeds.
