Campers dive into theater

Posted

“Seventeen wonderfully talented campers joined us for a fun-filled educational journey,” New Mexico State University Theatre Department Head Wil Kilroy said as the department’s week-long, on-campus theatre camp drew to a close June 16. Joining Kilroy in coordinating the camp were counselors Peyton Womble, Dominique Gomez and Riley Merritt, along with special guest teachers Christa Fredrickson, Kaela Salcedo and Lisa Hermanson. Participating students, ranging in age from 12-18, came from Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Farmington, El Paso and Chicago. At the camp, students “learned acting technique and exercises, musical theater singing and dance, studying Shakespeare, auditioning 101 and much more,” Kilroy said. The camp concluded with a showcase performance June 17 at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts.
