Children’s Reading Alliance presents ‘The Rooster Who Wouldn’t Be Quiet!’ July 23

Posted

Local actor and singer Cassandra Reveles will present “The Rooster Who Wouldn’t Be Quiet! (“El gallo que no se Callaba!”) by Carmen Agra Deedy at 7 p.m. Friday, July 23, via Zoom. The story will be told in both Spanish and English with audience participation.

This is the sixth story in the Children’s Reading Alliance’s 10-part series of Talking Stories/Cuentos que hablan quality children’s literature, told by local performers, produced by Children’s Reading Alliance (CRA) and sponsored by The Las Cruces Bulletin, New Mexico Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The program is free and open to the public. Subject matter is appropriate for families.

Through the monthly program, families are invited to Zoom with a different local performing artist to enjoy a story together and participate in discussion with open-ended questions that encourage critical thinking. Participants receive a copy of the book. Program themes celebrate speaking your truth and the courage to resist bullying. After the performance, the audience is invited to explore the story’s themes through intergenerational conversation.

The Children’s Reading Alliance focuses on advancing children’s literacy in Doña Ana County.
