THE DANCE ECLECTIC

Dance Eclectic steps up with in-person Fringe Dance Festival

Posted

The Dance Eclectic (TDE) will present the Fringe Dance Festival for two performances: 8 p.m. Saturday, July 17; and 2:30 p.m. July 18, at Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Main St. Downtown.

Tickets are $15 regular admission and $12 for students and senior citizens.

Tickets can be purchased at www.no-strings.org or at the door.

This is the festival’s fourth year at Black Box Theatre, said TDE Creative Director Morgan Rivera.

“The festival is a celebration of dance in the borderland hosted by TDE,” Rivera said.

In the past, the festival has featured guest companies from Las Cruces, El Paso and the surrounding area. This year, due to Covid restrictions, only DTE will perform.

The company will perform some of their favorite pieces, dating back to the first show they held at Black Box, Rivera said. There will also be some pieces from DTE’s most recent virtual show, "Max, Lost and Found!" and a preview of their upcoming show "The Ring Leader," which will be performed in the spring of 2022.

“We are very happy to welcome The Dance Eclectic back to the Black Box Theatre,” said Ceil Herman, who owns the theater along with her husband, Peter. “Their performances in July will be the first ones (at BBT) after the governor removes capacity limitations on July 1.

“Our seating configuration will return to our usual three-quarter round, allowing the dancers to install their Marley floor,” Herman said. “The ticketing system will now allow fully vaccinated patrons to choose their seats. Patrons who are not fully vaccinated or those who do not feel comfortable sitting next to others who are not in their family bubble, can contact us and we will assign their seating with social distancing. We are very excited to return to ‘normal.’”

A nonprofit, TDE formed in 2012 as a dance collective to give teens and adults performance opportunities and to create and perform members’ choreography.
