Dance Eclectic to perform ‘The Ring Leader’ Jan. 7-8 at Black Box Theatre

Posted

The Dance Eclectic of Las Cruces will perform “The Ring Leader” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8, 2022, at Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Main St.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available at the door and online at http://no-strings.org/.

“The Ring Leader” is “a family friendly show about a (circus) ring leader who is nearing retirement and a newcomer who is finding her way in the circus,” said The Dance Eclectic Creative Director Morgan Rivera. The show was inspired by the 2017 film “The Greatest Showman,” and the life of P.T. Barnum (1810-91), who, with James Anthony Bailey, founded the Barnum and Bailey Circus, which operated 1871-2017.

“As the story progresses,” Rivera said, “the ring leader sees the potential of the newcomer and chooses to groom and train her to take over so she can retire.”

Original choreography for the production is by members of The Dance Eclectic to “tell a story through genres of dance ranging from classical ballet to modern dance to jazz, as well as saber twirling and wonderfully talented guest artists,” Rivera said.

“Join us at the circus for some fun and playful acts as our ring leader navigates the demands of being in charge and our newcomer navigates finding her way under the big top,” she said.

The Dance Eclectic formed in 2012 as a dance collective to give teens and adults performance opportunities and to create and perform members’ choreography.

Rivera has a bachelor of arts degree in dance from the University of New Mexico and joined The Dance Eclectic in 2014.
