Downtown Desert Yoga will begin teacher training classes in May

Posted

Downtown Desert Yoga (DDY), 303 S. Alameda Blvd. in Las Cruces, will offer Explore the Possibilities,

Yoga-teacher training classes, beginning in May, said DDY owner Colleen Boyd.

“Our emphasis is on exploring the eight limbs of yoga, embracing yoga’s roots and sharing yoga asana classes through Optimal Movement,” Boyd said. The training will include the history and philosophy of yoga, yamas and niyamas (yoga’s ethical guides), energetics, medication and a variety of different styles of yoga.

“We believe yoga is a practice of self-study and self-discovery and is so much more than making impressive yoga shapes,” Boyd said. “Yoga literally translates as ‘unity’ – unity between mind and body, unity in our lives, and unity in our communities.”

Boyd said DDY’s training is unique because it will allow the participant to choose the path that he or she would like to focus on.

“You will be exposed to everything from Restorative and Yin, on one end of the spectrum to Vinyasa Flow and Hot Yoga on the (other) end,” Boyd said. “And, it isn’t exclusively for students interested in becoming a yoga instructor. It can be a way to deepen your own practice.”

The training includes evening and weekend classes over a period of approximately 40 weeks, Boyd said. It offers 200 CYT Yoga Alliance certification.
