Farm Bureau donates to La Casa domestic violence program

Posted

Members of New Mexico Farm & Livestock Bureau’s Women’s Leadership Committee (WLC) assembled care kits in early June for residents of La Casa, Inc. domestic violence shelter in Las Cruces for women impacted by domestic violence.

WLC purchased more than $200 in supplies and created 28 kits containing personal items such as toothbrushes, socks and body lotion.

“We’re pleased to support the important work of La Casa by providing personal items to its residents,” says WLC President Anita Hand. “Oftentimes, victims of domestic abuse leave in a rush and have little time to gather essentials as they run for safety. We’re happy to provide this piece of comfort in a tumultuous moment.”

WLC plays a vital role in the development of policies and programs and is active in all areas of the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau, a news release said, helping “involve women through the development of their leadership skills, agricultural education and other Farm Bureau concerns. We promote, protect and represent the business, economic, social and educational interests of farm and ranch families in New Mexico.”

The Farm Bureau is a 20,000-member organization comprised of farmers and ranchers “who are interested in private property rights and a local food supply,” the news release said. Founded in 1917, it is New Mexico’s largest private agricultural organization.
