Feature film has begun production in Las Cruces

Film Las Cruces is excited to announce a feature film, produced by Dig Films LLC, has begun production in Las Cruces and Doña Ana County, the organization said in a news release.

“We are excited to welcome Dig to the city of Las Cruces and Doña Ana County,” said Film Las

Cruces Director Don Gray. "Film and media is an important part of the creative and economic

life of the area and the southern region of New Mexico and we are happy to have them in the

community.”

The production, “Dig,” has been in pre-production since March and coordinating with the city’s Las

Cruces Film Office on a variety of local resources.

"As we work to increase the economic vitality for the City of Las Cruces, film and media

production is an industry we continue to support,” Mayor Ken Miyagishima said. “I am pleased to see the film production ‘Dig’ will be benefiting from our talented workforce and scenic diversity."

Starring Thomas Jane and Emile Hirsch, “Dig” is the story of a widower's strained relationship with

his hearing-impaired teenage daughter, which is tested when they are held hostage by two intruders and are forced to dig under a vacant house, revealing a dark secret from the past.

"As our community emerges from the pandemic, it’s exciting to see Las Cruces continue to be utilized as a great film-making destination,” said state Sen. Jeff Steinborn, D-Doña Ana, who is president of the nonprofit Film Las Cruces. 

"The City of Las Cruces is enthusiastic about the growth of the film and television industry in

our area,” Las Cruces City Manager Ifo Pili said. “With some of the best production incentives in the country, Las Cruces has put in the work to provide a world class environment for productions. This feature film is another testament to our progress."

The film is directed by K. Asher Levin (“Slayers,” “Alexander IRL”) and produced by Daniel

Cummings (“Slayers,” “The Seeker”) and Robert Dean (“Slayers,” “Dead of Night”).

"We are all excited to have the opportunity to shoot in New Mexico to take full advantage of the

state's distinct and diverse landscapes as well as stellar crew," Cummings said.

The production will employ approximately 27 New Mexico crew members and five New Mexico

principal talent.

“The New Mexico Film Office continues to push productions into every corner of New Mexico,” said New Mexico Film Office Director Amber Dodson. “In addition to Santa Fe and Albuquerque, Las Cruces is also a hot spot for film production in New Mexico.”

All film and television productions in New Mexico are required to adhere to the state’s operative

emergency public health order, associated public health restrictions and COVID-safe practices, the news release said.
