MESILLA VALLEY FINE ARTS GALLEY

Fine arts gallery features art title, fused glass work during December

Posted

Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Galley (MVFAG) will feature two local artists, Bonnie MacQuarrie and Marty Alberson, in December.

MacQuarrie specializes in art tile, MVFAG said in a news release. She learned her craft under the direction of Susan Gamble, owner of Santa Teresa Tile Works in Tucson, Arizona. Originally from San Francisco, MacQuarrie is a graduate of San Francisco State University. She moved to Las Cruces in June 2013. MacQuarrie’s work is influenced by Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse, the news release said. Her work is displayed in Tucson and Tubac, Arizona. Her largest installation of work, 12 benches and 18 pedestals, is permanently displayed on the grounds of the Oro Valley Marketplace in Tucson.

Alberson is a New Mexico native who grew up in the Mesilla Valley, MVFAG said. He creates art with fused glass — glass that is “melted” or fused at approximately 1,400 degrees, MVFAG said. Alberson has had a varied career as an accountant, building contractor, high-school teacher, oil and gas landman and currently as a home inspector. He became fascinated with fused glass when a stained-glass project he created more than a decade ago needed a fused-glass element, the news release said.

MVFAG is located at 2470-A Calle de Guadalupe, across from the Fountain Theatre on the historic Mesilla Plaza.

MVFAG features the work of 30 artists in various media, including oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, fused glass art jewelry, woodturnings, stained glass, photography, ceramics, mixed media, decorated gourds, handmade textile weavings, art tile, fiber art, natural gemstone jewelry, colored pencil, basket weavings, charcoal, pen and ink, prints, cards and miniature paintings.

MVFAG is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

First American Bank, 1553 Avenida de Mesilla, is well represented by gallery members who rotate their artwork monthly at the bank.
