Frame and Art Center showcasing ‘Chameleon Visions’ in May

Posted

The Frame and Art Center, 1100 S. Main St., in Pueblo Plaza, is hosting “Chameleon Visions,” with an exhibit of painting and art-print greeting cards by Las Cruces artist Linda Marlena Carr during May.

The show’s opening reception will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at Frame and Art.

You can also see the exhibit during Frame and Art’s regular hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Carr painted into her 20s, the artist said, but then stopped for a number of years before starting again seven years ago. She took lessons from revered Las Cruces artist Sally Quillen but considers herself primarily self-taught.

Carr paints mostly abstracts in a “wild style,” using brushes, palette knives and sponges, she said.

Before painting, she eases into a creative space with meditative music and then chooses the colors she wants to create the mood for the piece. Colors may be added or dropped as she starts painting.

“Paintings are done in bright colors to reach people’s attention,” Carr said, “and to bring powerful reaction and influence with a timely message” to her audience.

Carr’s other art experiences through the years have been weaving, spinning, vegetable dying, knitting, crocheting, sewing/designing, tie-dye and art cards, she said. For all her art projects, Carr draws from her use of color and texture.

Painting is now her “favorite art expression of love, depth and transformation,” Carr said.
