The Las Cruces 2021 Volunteer Fair and Giving Day raised $19,000 for 23 participating nonprofits.

The April 23 event was a 23-hour-long drive designed to ignite giving across southern New Mexico to support local nonprofits. It was the second virtual event to be held because of the pandemic.

The event was hosted by four partner organizations: The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico (CFSNM); The United Way of Southwest New Mexico (UWSNM); Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity (MVHH); and La Casa, Inc. domestic violence program.

The sponsoring organizations were able to match each donation dollar for dollar up to $500.

The organizations being matched included: La Casa, Inc.; United Military Women of the Southwest; New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum; Conservation Corps New Mexico, dba Conservation Legacy; Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary; El Caldito Soup Kitchen; Jardin de los Niños childcare for children and families struggling with homelessness; Mesilla Valley Hospice; Asombro Institute for Science Education; Mesilla Valley CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates); Soroptimist International of Las Cruces; Friends of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library; Ngage New Mexico; Casa de Peregrinos emergency food program; Humane Society of Southern New Mexico; PFLAG Las Cruces; Boys & Girls Club of Las Cruces; Roadrunner Food Bank; Turning Point of Las Cruces; and Children’s Reading Alliance.

“Even though this year’s Volunteer Fair and Giving Day event was held virtually, that didn’t stop the generosity of our community,” said UWSNM Executive Director Amanda Morales. “This year’s event also came with the opportunity to promote the services of participating organizations and allow them to show appreciation for an agency volunteer who has continued to provide assistance in a time unlike any other. We are so thankful for all the organizations who participated and the event committee who volunteered their time to make this event so successful.”
