Keeping the oceans safe

U.S. Navy Lt. j.g. Dominic Galaz of Las Cruces records information in the pilothouse aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG 89), Sept. 9, 2021. The Mustin is currently underway in the U.S. 4th Fleet area of responsibility conducting a series of exercises designed to increase interoperability and build capacity among partner nations, the Navy said. “With more than 90 percent of all trade traveling by sea, and 95 percent of the world’s international phone and internet traffic carried through fiber optic cables lying on the ocean floor, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity and security of the United States is directly linked to a strong and ready Navy,” the Navy said in a news release.
