The New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) board has approved funding for 20 New Mexico companies – including one in Las Cruces – to train 104 new employees and 24 interns, with an allocation of $2.5 million in May, NMEDD said in a news release. JTIP awarded $1.4 million to nine companies in March—none were in Las Cruces – for an additional 61 trainees and one intern.
The Las Cruces company receiving funds is X2nSAT, Inc., which received $141,570 for an average hourly wage of $25 for eight trainees and $18 for seven interns, the news release said.
X2nSAT, founded in 1996, provides wireless network and communications solutions, according to www.X2nSat.com, and “specializes in the unique needs and specific regulations of healthcare, utilities, oil and gas, enterprise, retail, distribution, telecommunications and maritime.” X2nSAT has offices in Las Cruces and Petaluma, California.
"X2nSat is grateful for the JTIP program and the approval of our application, said X2nSAT CEO Garrett Hill. “The program allows us to accelerate our hiring in Las Cruces and expand our business. The application process for JTIP is relatively painless and very advantageous for companies looking to expand in New Mexico. "The job training awards demonstrate that New Mexico is becoming an even more attractive place where companies want to relocate and expand -- and with that bring high-paying jobs," NMEDD Secretary Alicia J. Keyes said. "These incentives are vital right now so businesses can move past this uncertainty and into a period of sustained recovery."
The average hourly wage for the May JTIP jobs is $31 statewide, with positions ranging from $17 to $61 an hour, NMEDD said.
JTIP is one of the most generous training-incentive programs in the country, reimbursing 50-75 percent of employee wages for classroom and on-the-job training for up to six months, NMEDD said. The New Mexico Legislature created JTIP, formerly known as the Industrial Development Training Program, or “in plant training,” in 1972. Since then, JTIP has supported more than 1,600 training projects and 47,000 new jobs.
