Las Cruces HS boys move closer to second straight state title

NM State High School Basketball Playoffs

The Las Cruces High School boys basketball team moved a huge step closer toward achieving its dream of winning a second straight New Mexico state championship.

The Bulldawgs beat Roswell 68-64 Thursday night in Roswell in a Class 5A semifinal. Las Cruces, which hasn’t lost since February 2020, had to overcome a strong upset bid by Roswell.

Las Cruces now advances to the championship game. The Dawgs will face Cleveland High School of Rio Rancho at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night at The Pit at the University of New Mexico.

Roswell led Las Cruces 34-30 at halftime and 53-46 at the end of three before the Dawgs rallied for the win.
