Las Cruces Public Art Seeks Artist for New Animal Services Center

Posted

Las Cruces Public Art (LCPA) seeks an artist or art team to create an outdoor, site-specific, public art sculpture to be located at the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV), 3551 Bataan Memorial West, facility expansion. Deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, March 31. Artists must apply via Artist.Callforentry.org (CaFÉ).

The commissioned art piece will become a beacon to the public promoting the ASCMV. The expectation for the art is for a large, free-standing sculpture to be installed in front of the new ASCMV expansion. It will be a neighborhood focal point, visible from the surrounding streets, and adjacent to U.S. Hwy 70. The design should illustrate the animals and services of the ASCMV. The sculpture may be 2D or 3D of single or varied durable mediums, must be safe and low maintenance, and expected to last the life of the new building.

All submissions will be reviewed by jury process. The top design will be presented to the City Art Board and Las Cruces City Council. The selected artist or art team shall collaborate with the City of Las Cruces Public Works Department and the LCPA program coordinator in the specifications and completion of this project.
