Interim Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Ralph Ramos has been selected to fill the district’s top job on a permanent basis.

The decision was made during a work session of the Board of Education on Tuesday evening.

Ramos received a two-year contract that will pay him a salary of $180,000.

Ramos has served as the district’s interim superintendent since March 1. He succeeds Karen Trujillo who was killed Feb. 25 when she was struck by a vehicle when she was walking her dogs.

Ramos has worked for LCPS for 28 years, having served as a teacher, assistant principal and principal.

The other finalist for the job was Dr. Oscar Rico, who is the executive director for information technology for the Canutillo Independent School District.
