Lions Clubs Free Glasses Day is Aug. 20

The Doña Ana Council of Lions Club and Essilor Vision Foundation will host “Changing Life Through Lenses” Free Glasses Day, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Lions Club Community Center, 1501 N. Solano Drive in Las Cruces.

“Everyone with a current eyeglasses prescription qualifies,” said New Mexico Lions Operation KidSight, Inc. Program Manager Brenda Dunn, a Lions member and president of the National Association of Vision Professionals. “No financial information is required, as all community members that wear glasses qualify to get a pair of glasses (frame and lenses included) that day,” she said.

The event is for both adults and children.

Dunn said qualifying eyeglass prescriptions include single vision lenses or lined bifocals only. Progressive lenses and transition lenses are not available, she said. Dunn said expired eyeglass prescriptions will not be accepted during the event, noting that children's prescriptions are generally good for one year and most adult prescriptions are good for two years.

Eyeglass orders filled during the event will take 10-14 business days to complete, she said. Individuals and/or parents will be contacted when their glasses are ready for pickup.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has named August 2022 as Children’s Vision and Learning Month in New Mexico.
