Live theater returns to NMSU with 'Fefu and Friends'

“Fefu and Her Friends” opens with a special preview performance Thursday, Sept. 23, at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts, 1000 E. University Ave., and continues with live performances through Sunday, Oct. 3. In addition to the 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23 preview performance, evening shows are at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Sept. 24-25 and Oct. 1-2, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3. NMSU Theatre Department assistant professor Nichole Hamilton directed the play, which she said “brings the audience into the absurdist experience in the second act by dividing the audience into four groups. There are four sets all going on simultaneously, but each section of the audience only watches one at a time, then moves on to the next, until all four groups have seen all four sections.” The play includes mature content. All audience members are required to wears masks. The cast includes NMSU theatre students Sage Drake, Dominique Gomez, Darcy Harman, Yasmine Jahangiri, Kamryn Neill (as Fefu, which is short for Stephanie), Eliza Phillips and Jensen Stell; along with NMSU Theatre Department adjunct professor Christa Fredrickson. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for senior citizens, $12 for students and $6 for under age 18. Seating is limited to 80 attendees for each performance and will be general admission (no assigned seating). Tickets can be purchased online at www.onthestage.tickets/new-mexico-state-university.
