On Sept. 15, John Schutz conducted the first rehearsal of the Mesilla Valley Concert Band since the onset of Covid-19. New Mexico State University Music Department assistant professor Michael Mapp is the band’s new director. “We continue to honor Dr. (William) Clark’s vision for a quality community-based concert band,” band member Diane Schutz said on Facebook. Concert dates are at 3 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 10 and Dec. 5, 2021; and March 20 and May 8, 2022; and a 3 p.m. Monday, July 4. All concerts are in Atkinson Recital Hall in the NMSU Music Building, 1075 N.
