Posted

Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Galley (MVFAG), 12470-A Calle de Guadalupe, will feature the work of local artists Nanci Bissell and Steven Martin during July.

Bissell is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor of science and a master’s degree in education and a minor in art studies. She has been an educator, teacher, assistant principal and principal in elementary schools, retiring after 26 years in education. Bissell’s paintings have been exhibited in numerous art shows. Her artistic interests include seascapes, street scenes and landscapes.

Martin was educated as a geographer, historian and criminologist and spent 29 years preserving natural, historic and cultural resources on public lands throughout the western United States. Since his retirement in 2013, Martin, a self-taught photographer, has been striving to increase public awareness for protecting and preserving public lands and resources through the medium of digital photography.

Martin’s photography has been employed to support the conservation efforts of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.  His photos have been published in New Mexico, Black & White and Weatherwise magazines.

Martin and photography partner Lanny Wagner have hosted photography workshops for the Road Scholar organization and currently offer photography workshops in southern New Mexico and the Four Corners region.

MVFAG features the work of 30 artists in various media, including oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, fused glass art jewelry, woodturnings, stained glass, photography, ceramics, mixed media, decorated gourds, handmade textile weavings, art tile, fiber art, natural gemstone jewelry, colored pencil, basket weavings, charcoal, pen and ink, prints, cards and miniature paintings.
