The Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society (MVJBS) has scheduled performances in June, July, August and October, with additional events to be announced.
Here is what is coming up for MVJBS:
Sunday, June 19: 8 p.m., the Ricky Malichi Trio, Rio Grande Theatre (RGT), 211 N. Main St. Downtown. Free admission. The concert is part of the second annual New Mexico Juneteenth Jazz Arts Festival. Visit https://rickymalichi.com/.
Thursday, July 14: 8 p.m.: Pancho Romero’s Border Jazz Orchestra, Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St. Free admission.
Sunday, July 17: 7 p.m., Marcos Calvacante Trio, Fountain Theatre, 2469 Calle de Guadalupe on the historic plaza in Mesilla; students $1, MVJBS members $5, guests $10.
Sunday, Aug. 21: 7 p.m., Colin McAllister Latin Jazz, Fountain Theatre; students $1, MVJBS members $5, guests $10.
Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 1-2: noon-6 p.m., Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society Jazz Happenings concerts, historic Mesilla Plaza.
The nonprofit MVJBS was established in 2006. Listeners as well as musicians are welcome.
The society meets the third Sunday of each month and features a live music performance at each meeting. There is a fee for the meeting to pay the bands. The society promotes musicians through scholarships, including its Bob Burns Scholarship and Helen Sachs Helder Vocal Jazz Scholarship.
