With funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service program, New America School Las Cruces (NASLC), 207 S. Main St., is offering free meals to all enrolled students/children ages 18 during the 2021-22 school year, the school said in a news release.
The program is part of the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act. And, through a waiver, continues the National School Lunch Program’s Seamless Summer Option during the regular school year.
“Studies have shown that children who are not hungry perform better in school,” NASLC said in a news release. “By providing breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge, we are hoping to create a better learning environment for our students.”
NASLC said the meals it serves will follow USDA guidelines for healthy school meals.
