DOWNTOWN LAS CRUCES PARTNERSHIP

New mural coming to Downtown Las Cruces

Downtown Las Cruces Partnership (DLCP) in collaboration with NMCO Media will paint a new, featured mural on Main Street in Downtown Las Cruces.

“We are excited to champion our small businesses and celebrate the vibrancy and cultural identity of our Downtown,” DLCP Executive Director Jennifer Garcia Kozlowski said in a news release.

The new mural will be created as part of DLCP’s “Go•Thrive•Be Downtown Las Cruces” campaign “to reintroduce Downtown Las Cruces to residents and elevate tourism in the district,” the news release said.

The campaign includes brightly illustrated artwork featuring quail, patterns and floral accents. The campaign will also include a commercial and an updated website to be released in the near future.

“The concept of the work was to celebrate the classic New Mexican style we see in daily life, in a way that is fresh, colorful and exciting – kind of a reflection of what is happening in Downtown Las Cruces right now,” said NMCO Media Graphic Designer and muralist Dana Apodaca. “It’s a reinvigoration of life with new energy, new businesses, new attractions for tourists.”

The mural is being painted on the west side of the Insta-Copy Imaging wall at 318 N. Main St.

Insta-Copy has supported DLCP with other artistic endeavors, as they have offered their wall for the “Color Me Cruces” mural which was painted by Christina Ballew and Atom Bomb Studio owners Anahy Nunez and Aaron “Xombi” Valenzuela, the release said.

“My support is in part channeled by my late mother, Diana Lyon, who was a real proponent of the arts and a pioneer for small business in Downtown Las Cruces,” Insta-Copy owner Joshua Lyon said. “I’m absolutely honored to have our company be a part of this mural and to showcase the arts of Downtown.”

“This mural is a testament to our community, especially the Downtown businesses that adapted and are thriving during the pandemic,” said Ballew, muralist and creative director at NMCO Media. “This is a collaborative effort from all involved, and we really hope to energize Downtown with this new artwork.” Ballew is also chair of the City of Las Cruces Art Board.

The mural is expected to be completed this month with the “Go•Thrive•Be•” campaign to debut in the following months.
