LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State baseball team will look to continue its winning ways against in-state rival New Mexico on Tuesday night at Presley Askew Field. I-25 has run through Las Cruces lately as the Aggies have six straight against the Lobos.
AGGIE FACTS
- In the all-time series, the Aggies lead the Lobos 24-22 and boast a 12-9 record in Las Cruces.
- The Aggies score an average of 8.48 runs per game against the Lobos throughout history.
- This will be the Aggies’ first meeting since April 16, 2019, against the Lobos. In that game, Kevin Jimenez was the lone player on the current roster to play – going 1-5 with a run batted in.
- NM State has won six straight contests against New Mexico, dating back to May 2, 2017.
- Cade Swenson will be making his second start of the season for NM State. In his first start, Swenson went 5.0 innings against Prairie View A&M and picked up the win.
- Nolan Funke has made at least three starts in three different positions for the Aggies – Left field, first base, and third base. Tommy Tabak and Cal Villareal have both made starts at each outfield position.
- Ryan Grabosch has appeared in the lineup card in six of the nine slots throughout the season – the highest total of any Aggie. Grabosch has hit in the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 spots for NM State this season.
- Tuesday’s contest will be the first home midweek of the year for NM State. To this point, the Aggies have only played in a pair of midweeks – Both at Nebraska.
ABOUT THE LOBOS
- New Mexico took down No. 9 Arizona, 12-7, last week in a midweek contest. Following the top ten win, the Lobos took down Air Force on the road for a series win.
- Matt Haley will make his third start of the season on Tuesday night. Haley also got the nod in New Mexico’s midweek game against Arizona last week.
- New Mexico leads the nation in double plays and double plays per game. As a team, the Lobos have turned 32 double plays this season, averaging 1.33 per game.
- The Lobos also rank in the top five for triples (3rd; 14) and triples per game (5th; 0.58).
- Tod Brown is in his first season at the helm of the Lobos. Brown came to Albuquerque from North Dakota State in Fargo, N.D. – Hometown of NM State pitcher Cam Blazek.
- New Mexico is a combined 5-11 in games away from Santa Ana Star Field this season.
- After the game with NM State, the Lobos will head back to Albuquerque for a three-game with Mountain West foe UNLV.
