NMSU Department of Art BFA exhibit: ‘Abnormalities’

Posted

The New Mexico State University Department of Art will host a Bachelor of fine arts (BFA) exhibit titled “Abnormalities,” featuring the work of BFA students Dylan Overheim and Jessica Clarke in December.

In lieu of a museum setting, a Zoom opening reception will be held 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9. Those who join the Zoom reception will have the opportunity to ask the artists questions and see their artwork. The exhibit and Zoom link will be posted on the Department of Art’s website, https://artdepartment.nmsu.edu/, and social media pages on Instagram and Facebook.

Overheim will present a body of work that “encapsulates the hidden uncertainty, over stimulus and uneasiness in anxiety” through his images, brush work and abstraction of forms using various sculptural techniques,” a Department of Art news release said.

Clark’s work explores genetic commonalities found throughout her family and her awareness that these traits are shared by many different people from a range of backgrounds, the news release said. “She brings the viewer’s awareness to the trait through her enlarged isolation of the area and rendering of the forms.”
