Police spell out ‘LCPD Cares’ motto with mural

Posted

Community members got together to place the Las Cruces Police Department’s “LCPD Cares” campaign into stone.

Individuals from different community groups placed seven tons of colored rock into a hillside at the East Mesa Public Safety Complex, spelling out the phrase “LCPD Cares.”

The campaign pledges that the police department cares  about the community it serves, about providing quality service, about the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors and about quality of life.

Assisting the Las Cruces police with the mural were: artist Kathy Morrow; the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association from New Mexico State University; Boy Scout Troop 68; and Juvenile Probation, Parole and Drug Court.

The Las Cruces Fire Department and officers from the LCPD’s Community Outreach and Codes Enforcement also assisted with the project.

Toro Rock Products provided most of the rock. LCPD Community Outreach officer Alejandro Rodriguez spearheaded the effort.

You can see the mural on the south-facing hillside along Sonoma Ranch Road at the East Mesa Safety Complex at 550 N. Sonoma Ranch Road.
