Abyacsa, a construction and development company that has offices in Santa Teresa, broke ground in February on a 135,000 square-foot spec building, said Border Industrial Association (BIA) President Jerry Pacheco.  “Along with the spec building, we now have 500,000 square feet of new spec space being constructed in Santa Teresa.,” Pacheco said.

Abyacsa, which was founded 25 years ago, is focused on project design, urbanization and construction, according to its website www.abyacsa.com. The company is based in Juarez.

Founded by Pacheco in 2009, BIA is an advocacy group that represents the Santa Teresa Industrial base. Since its founding, BIA has successfully lobbied for more than $50 million in infrastructure funding for the Santa Teresa industrial base, he said.

With about 5,500 residents, Santa Teresa (an unincorporated community that the U.S. Census Bureau calls a “census-designated place.”) has .001 percent of New Mexico’s population but generates more than half of the state’s nearly $4 billion in international exports, Pacheco said. As a result, the Las Cruces Metro Statistical Area (MSA), which includes Santa Teresa, has shown the most export growth of any MSA in the U.S., he said.
