Sign up now for NAMI Southern New Mexico virtual walk

Registration is open for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walks Your Way virtual walk that will be held in Las Cruces and statewide Saturday, May 22, in conjunction with similar walks across the state and around the country.

There is no fee to register as a walker or team captain for the NAMI Walks events, according to NAMI New Mexico. Every individual who personally raises $100 will be recognized on walk day with an event T-shirt.

“The thing we're most excited for the walk this year is how it is our gateway to all of the other great things we have planned,” said NAMI Southern New Mexico Executive Director Micah Pearson, who is also a member of the NAMI national board of directors.

Funds raised from the walk will help NAMI Southern New Mexico expand the services it offers to the community without cost, Pearson said, including offering programming in Spanish for the first time ever.

As of April 28, NAMI New Mexico had signed up nearly 20 teams and nearly 100 total walkers statewide to participate in the May 22 walk. It had raised $42,000 of its $115,000 goal. NAMI Southern New Mexico had raised nearly $2,300 of its $5,000 goal as of April 28.

“We are counting on participants to fund-raise this year,” said NAMI Southern New Mexico President Alicia Blasingame. “Locally, we are raising money to support capacity building in southern New Mexico, as we serve 16 counties.”
